Happy Birthday to my wild and free Zoey!
Tempting as it is, now is not a time for sentimental stories; it's a time for cake, and presents, and play, and that's just what we did.
The morning started out with a hunt - following the string around the house to reveal the first present:

And it seems to have been a hit.
Then, while the girls and I went off to meet forest fire fighters and Smokey the Bear, Chris crafted up the best swing ever, bringing our total of suspended flying objects in the backyard to three.

I have no idea who that child is. Mine were too terrified to get anywhere near Smokey.

After a long day of play, we had dinner out back with our new friend Sabine, and then we collapsed.
Being the mother of a small child is exhausting, both physically and mentally, but it's also delightful. Mothering gets easier with every passing day, which I am so grateful for, but it's a bittersweet thing to leave three-year-old-dom behind. It's pretty silly and delicious.
Goodnight, Zoey.
