A few years ago, a friend introduced us to dinosaur eggs oatmeal.
It's regular instant oatmeal, but with these little white gelatinous eggs mixed in, which melt pretty quickly when you add hot water, revealing the baby dinosaurs within.
I know it's disgusting, but how fun is that?
We buy them on very, very special occasions. And as soon as they come in the house, they're all the kids can talk about. When can we eat them? Now? Now? Now?
Last time we brought this madness upon ourselves, which was at least a year ago, Zoey of course ate the dinosaurs first. (Reminds me of the marshmallow test that they did with preschool kids at Stanford, which I wrote about ages ago. Long story short, kids who could refrain from immediate gratification at a young age fared far better than their more impulsive friends; in fact this ability proved to be one of the biggest indicators of future success.)
Anyway, this time around, Zoey ate all of the oatmeal, carefully hatched the dinosaurs, wrapped them in tissue paper, nestled them in a zip lock bag, and taped it to the wall for safe keeping.
After a few days, she pulled the bag down from the wall, and she's been sleeping with it in her bed ever since.
I'm so in love with this kid.
