Stella and I took our new (to us) vintage game of Life for a test run last week.
With
bank notes, student loans, deeds, and all the rest, it's a pretty
complicated game. Early on, each player passes over a red square
pronouncing 'get married,' at which point a little pink or blue peg is
added into that player's car.
"Do you want a husband or a wife?" I asked Stella.
"A wife!" she exclaimed. "Happy wife, happy life."
A moment later, she recanted.
Many twirls of the game wheel behind her, I finally passed over 'get married' myself.
"What do you want?" she asked.
"I'll take a wife."
"You're gay! That's so great!"
